New Mexico

"Commitment, hard work, efficiency, accountability: these are the elements in my approach to governing, and my strategy for success." —Governor Bill Richardson

These words can so readily apply to poetry, too. Just replace the word "governing" with "poetry."

  1. Hmmm...I might be up for New Mexico, since I can do speculative verse on the LAND OF ENCHANTMENT that has a town called TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES.

    That sure is tempting.

    Sandyman PS:

    He's kicking it like Chaplin
he plays it as it lays
    he has no electricity
    he reads Bukowski
    he's become a veteran
    of the Harmonica Duel
    while still just a boy

    he's peanut saucy
    sleeps for keeps
    he's clean, he's dirty
    he's building a green machine
going to the Reno in the sky
he's the cowboy wonder of the West
    with pulsars in his eyes
    makes me believe
    in new fuels,
    neo bebop inventions,
the time machine by the sea

    I'm burning but too shy
    with my red-hots,
    private intentions and lies
    I wonder if,
    I say, the question is,
    what if it lasted?
What if the damn thing flies?

    but everything free
    just someday leaves
so I never said my goodbyes

Don't you know that Chaucer references can kill? :)

    Through stunning bends of circumstance

    Through stunning bends of circumstance
    I see no children smiling
Let us go through the logs together
And we will shear our hair together
    Stuff satchels quietly, nicely, politely
    Through stunning bends of circumstance
I fall into a warm velvet glow
Can you see, can you see
    (may won't stand for slug-a-beds)
And there is no room for anything else.
    Through stunning bends of circumstance
You slay me with your eyes
